The first night we arrived in Rome our group of six went out to dinner and then walked to the
Colosseum at night. It was so beautiful with all the lights on at night. This amphitheatre at one time was completely covered in white marble, the outside and inside. While walking with our tour it was so neat to see the original marble that had once covered the seats, stairs etc. The original numbers still can be seen from the outside to indicate which "doorway" to enter according to class. Our tour guide said that Gladiator(the movie) depicted the Colosseum the best of any Hollywood movie. The Arch of Constantine is right next to the Colosseum.
